Translate this… Facebook gave me skillz!

Monday, October 27th, 2008

And I quote:

Hello Psymon101, do you speak English (UK)?
Help translate Facebook into English (UK) so that it can be used by people all over the world, in all languages.

Besides the different spelling of a few things, like grey and gray, color to colour,
what is there to translate?

Example 1:

English(US) : “Hi, I am one of the new translators for Facebook”
English(UK #2): “Wotcha there, I am one of the new translators for facebook!  ”
English(UK #3): “Allroyt, I yam ‘un of the noo translators fer facebook.”

Here we have two “UK” translations of the same thing, if I lived in the city of London I would probably say Example 2, if I lived in Birmingham I would say Example 3.

This is, as with many things about Facebook things that can be filled under ridiculous, the only thing that Facebook has ever offered me is a great way to get in contact with friends of long ago. As for their silly apps/games they just don’t appeal to me., I just cant see the point!

So Facebook, if you see some “translations” in Brummy or Cockney (Example 3 and 2 respectively) you know what translator did the deed.

Facebook, I must be stupid..

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Today I went back to check out Facebook and signed up for Twitter. Twitter was soon dropped, I was expecting something more that just “twitting” but no… Ok, so I must be clearly stupid right? Since everyone is using it!  Twitter thrives on the same thing that soap operas thrive upon, that by nature we are interested in what people do, people think and just peoples lives in general. So it seems to add up, I am not a soap fan, then really I am not a twitter fan, but my gosh, its popular.. Damn the hype!:)

Facebook, can someone tell me how much time do I have to invest in Facebook to aquire any enjoyment out of it? It maybe good for businesses though since there are alot of niche groups to check out, so I added myself to the Asterisk group. I`ll keep hiting up on Facebook though just to see if something that I have initially missed floats up to my attention.

The reason that I went to check out these two social networks is that some A-Listed bloggers are reporting a decline in readership, they conclude that due to the social network revolution people are more connected in their related fields, using the social network to gather information instead of blogs.  Blogs, focused ones, are an excellent resource for aquiring information, Facebook doesnt really strike me
to be an easy way of acquiring information….

I dont really care if Facebook and its other flavors take over blogging, I enjoy writting blogs, its clear cut and straight to the point without
any extra fluff attached.. Some people just like it that way:)
